Far Infrared Sauna FAQ

What does a far infrared sauna do?

This type of sauna uses light to heat your body directly without heating the air around you. An infrared sauna produces results similar to a traditional steam  sauna such as increased heart rate and sweating. Using light instead of increasing the temperature makes it accessible to people who can't tolerate the heat of a conventional sauna.

Which is better: a far or near infrared sauna?

Far infrared saunas reach about 5mm under your skin and are more beneficial for detoxing your body, heat therapy, and general relaxation. Near infrared light can reach up to (NIR (780-980nm) penetrates to) 5mm beneath the skin to treat damaged joints and cartilage, and speed up the healing of small wounds. Depending on your preference and use, both have their advantages.

Is a far infrared sauna healthy?

Yes, there are many health benefits to the use of far infrared saunas. When used in conjunction with exercise and a healthy lifestyle, infrared saunas can increase exercise tolerance, recovery and energy.

Who should not use a far infrared sauna?

Do not use any sauna without consulting your physician if you are:

        - Pregnant
        - Over the age of 65
        - Using prescription drugs
        - Hemophiliac/ prone to bleeding
        - Sensitive to heat
        - At risk due to cardiovascular conditions or chronic conditions/disease associated with reduced ability to sweat

Do far infrared saunas cause cancer?

No, there has been no evidence that shows a risk associated with infrared light therapy and skin cancer. Some studies have actually been found to show that infrared saunas help with treatment of cancer. See the video from the National Cancer Institute.
